A campaign to make Cilla Black Christmas number one has received the backing of over 10,000 fans according to The Liverpool ECHO.
The ‘Cilla for Christmas number one’ Facebook page was started by one of her many admirers and hopes to honour the singer by getting ‘You’re my World’ to the coveted number one spot this Christmas.
The Very Best of Cilla Black topped the album charts the day after her funeral recently, but it seems some of the ‘Anyone Who Had a Heart’ singer’s fans are not content with that.
Gareth Wells from Peterborough started the push as his way of paying tribute to the former singer and TV star and says he hopes she can beat the X Factor single, which traditionally gets the number one spot.
He said: “A lot of people, especially the younger generation, will remember Cilla from TV but she had such an amazing singing career before that.
“Her singing talent is incredible and I just don’t think we hear it enough. It would be the ultimate honour to her to get her Christmas number one – it’s the one that all of the singers want.”
Support for the effort grew quickly – with over 10,000 fans on Facebook and Twitter and celebrity friends of Cilla, including Sheridan Smith who played the star in an ITV drama earlier this year, have also got behind the campaign on social media by sharing posts about the push.
There is currently a petition for record company Parlophone to release a physical single in the run up to Christmas, with proceeds being donated to charity.
