Sir Alex Ferguson has branched out from a career in football and put his name to a range of Christmas trees, just in time for the run-in to the festive season.
And despite their team not exactly being being top of the tree since the Govan man left the club, the ‘Ferguson Fir’ is expected to be a huge hit with Reds fans everywhere when it comes into stock over the next few weeks.
Stephen Evans, founder of Christmas Tree World and himself a big United fan, lives near Sir Alex in Cheshire and the 58 year-old, who runs the company with his son Lawrence, 25, turned to his neighbour when he wanted a name for one of their individually designed trees.
The artificial tree, which is available in heights from four to 12 feet tall, comes already fitted with white or coloured LED lights.
But that’s not all. There is also an ‘Ultra Ferguson’ option, which comes with more branch tips, more lights and a range of different settings and promises to be as prickly as the man himself.
Evans, who has been in the Christmas tree business for over thirty years said the ex-United supremo, who won 49 major honours during his glittering 26-year career with the Reds, was the perfect fit for the top-of-the-range tree.
“We wanted to name our trees, like they do with roses, to help give them even more of an identity,” he told The Manchester Evening News.
“So we thought who better than him? It’s a great product, one of the best we’ve ever produced. And he’s obviously probably the best manager there’s ever been.
“It’s good name as well, being a Scottish name, so it just fits really well. He was really chuffed when we asked him and was fully on-board with it.
“We’re expecting it to be really popular so people will have to be quick if they want one. Fans of other teams such as Liverpool and City might not be too impressed.
“But he was so successful and is so revered I think fans of all clubs respect him.”
